KBRT: Radio Free Clarity

Steve Burt, Will Richardson, Tim Wilson and I recorded another Ed Tech Coast to Coast podcast this evening. I went downtown to Steve’s office where he recorded the program with Will and Tim connecting via Skype. Steve should have it up on the web site later this week…

I enjoyed that podcast and I’ve subscribed to it to get future episodes. I’d like to suggest another topic for a future episode. As I’m working to get blogs, wikis, and moodles into our area districts, I’m finding that more and more of them have already made up their minds that they will NOT permit blogs in their schools. THey’ve gone to great lengths to block them, and they seem resolute in their position that it’s just NOT going to happen in their districts. Yet, I see your school’s website/blog and its link to Flickr and how VERY cool that it, and I feel much like someone who knows the secret to the Fountain of Youth and I can’t get anyone to listen.

So, maybe you, Steve, Tim, and Will can address this issue sometime. How can I get schools to at least TRY blogs and wikis? A couple have said that they will allow them to be used by teachers, but NEVER by students UNLESS they can restrict access to them to their Intranet or, at best, our regional WAN. Anyone else could not see the blogs. I feel that position will doom the blogs to failure from the onset, but I’m not able to get beyond their fear.

I’m looking forward to hearing your discussion - should you feel it a worthy topic. (Steve is actually coming out here in January to do workshops for us, and I’m sure he’ll also work to ease their fears.)
