Photo Dropper is a WordPress plugin that allows you to easily search for and place Creative Commons licensed photos from Flickr in your weblog posts. The Plugin provides a search field within the post interface that allows you to search via key words. It provides the option of placing a small, medium or large images in your post and automatically includes the attribution.
The setup options allow you to automatically exclude images that are not commercially usable and also allows you to sort your search returns based on “interestingness.”
This is something I plan to add to our school weblogs that are powered by WordPress.
Note: Please see Paul Left’s comment below regarding validation…

A great plugin – but when I used it, my site would no longer validate at http://validator.w3.org. The plugin included the attribute align=”absmiddle” for the little CC icon. W3 didn’t like that – but when I changed it to align=”middle” it validated without a problem.
So next time I use it I’ll have to remember to edit the HTML before posting…

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the information regarding validation. I’ve added a note in post regarding this…

Thanks, Tim…
In my earlier post I said ‘I’ll have to remember to edit the HTML before posting’. I decided this would not be easy! So I’ve changed the plugin code very slightly to remove the absmiddle tag. I’ve posted some simple instructions here:

Since I posted my earlier comment, a new version of Photo Dropper has become available and I’ve updated my instructions for amending the code to avoid the validation issue:
http://www.verso.co.nz/tools/60/photo-dropper-for-wordpress-validation-problem/
However, WordPress 2.5 has now been released and the list of compatible plugins at http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.5 does not list Photo Dropper as compatible.
The earlier version of Photo Dropper does not appear to work with WordPress 2.5, not yet sure about the new version…

Nothing to do with photodropper, but I’ve found that the visual editor in WordPress2.5.1 also causes a similar validation problem when including a link in your post. You have to edit the post’s HTML to fix the problem…

I agree that Photo Dropper is a great plugin. I hadn’t noticed the issue with validation. That’s good to know and something I will look into.
