Scrapblog – online scrapbooks

Scrapblog - online scrapbooks: This is a very slick web based tool for creating online scrapbooks. While not a maker of scrapbooks, I was impressed with the Flash and Java based interface.

Lazybase is a web based data tool that allows anyone to design, create and share a database. Similar in functionality to ZohoCreator and Dabble DB.


Opera Browser for Nintendo DS™

Over the weekend I read about the announcement that the folks who create the Opera web browser are working on a version for the Nintendo DS.... I tried the browser that Sony provides for the PSP, and was not impressed, but Opera is a great browser.


So far I just have a few accounts set up, but after spring break I plan to offer it to any staff that would like to take advantage of it.... Like I said before, it would be nice if instead of adds, there were links to education related resources based on the content of a mail message...


Access Database is a program that our students must master in order to pass the NC 8th Grade Computer Skills Test. I know that we could use MS Works still for our high school kids to learn how to use databases, but no one in the real world uses it...

Not content to be the best mapping web site on Earth, Google has launched Google Maps Mars.... The about page has lots of background information about exactly what you are seeing.


DabbleDB: Online App Building For Everyone: TechCrunch points to a very interesting web based tool called dabble-db.... The sort of applications you would create and then use are what most of us normally hack together in a spreadsheet or using some other database application that is often complex.


March Madness in North Dakota: Go Magi!

Not a podcast, but a live Internet broadcast of our high school basketball games in the state tournament being done by two freshman coaches using a Macintosh Powerbook. Thursday 3:00 pm Boys, 7:15 pm Girls http://www.gomagi.org/ Instead of commercials they cut away to interviews of players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc. done using Garageband.

Feedwhip is a service that will watch a web site and email you whenever changes are made to the site. Great for sites, such as my school district web site, that have not yet implemented RSS feeds...


Greasemonkey Script: Amazon PDX Linky

Userscripts.org: Amazon PDX Linky: This Firefox Greasemonkey script, based on the LibraryLookup tool by Jon Udell, works to add two links to a book page from Amazon based on the ISBN.... Powells has several locations in Portland and once at their site you can find new and used copies of the book and see which store has copies.

It would be nice if Google would allow a district to use the Adword technology to push educational related links based on the content of the mail. For example when reading an email that mentions your term paper topic, the sidebar would not be full of ads, but rather links to resources.

BBC – The Feed Factory

It also includes a very good introduction to RSS for those new to the technology, and for experienced users, it takes you to a directory which organizes their RSS feeds by category. In addition any page on the BBC that has an RSS feed also has the familiar orange RSS icon along with a link to the the feed.


Stephen Downes ~ MyGlu

Stephen Downes has created MyGlu, is a Javascript that takes an OPML file and generates a web page from the RSS feeds associated with that OPML. Similar to SuprGlu, except you can a page with your own look and feel.

The MAKEbot is an AIM/iChat client you can add to your buddy list to get the latest news from MAKE magazine.... For example type "search ipod" and receive back links to the 5 latest posts/stories that deal with the iPod.

It allows multiple users to edit a single web-based document at the same time, and synchronizes all changes so that users always have the same version.... Suggested uses include collaborative note taking during a class, or back channel writing during a conference or phone/tele conference.

Performancing is a Firefox extension that puts a weblog editor into the Firefox web browser. The How To Guide explains all of its features, but I was impressed that I could drag and drop an image into the editing area and then resize the image.
